Ohio PIRC Approach

1. ACCESS

Ohio PIRC offers two paths for families to access information and supports:

Toll-free Information Line (1-888-OHPIRC9)
Trained Call Specialists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help families:
- Understand Public School Choice
- Access local school report cards
- Connect to free tutoring through Supplemental Education Services

Online resources to help families:
- Understand their role in school improvement
- Understand the importance of family involvement in schools
- Link to parent tips on communicating with school personnel

2. ADVICE

With research-based guidance to individuals, families, groups, partners and schools, Ohio PIRC strives to:
- Collaborate with committed stakeholders to increase parent involvement in schools
- Promote family engagement best practices across the state
- Offer individual consultation on a limited basis

3. ADVOCACY

Ohio PIRC arms adults with advocacy skills and supports through two structured programs:

Parent Leadership Institute (PLI)
- Comprehensive training and coaching in multiple state locations equips adults to become stronger advocates in education

Parents as Teachers (PAT)
- Home visitors help first-time parents in Southwest Ohio create a healthy, nurturing environment for child development
